Musical Director

Howard Kane

Howard's musical career began when, as a toddler, he was placed in front of an old radiogram that had eight shellac LPs on its loading arm, ready to keep him quiet, whilst his mother got on with the housework. He progressed through 'cello lessons gaining an impressive distinction at Grade 1; singing in the school choir, taking up the flute, because it was lighter and less bulky than the 'cello on the bus, and has ended up bespotted with music.

He plays the flute, too infrequently! He sang with the Chester St Cecilia Singers for over 40 years, visiting many great English cathedrals to sing services, having directed them at Coventry and Bristol Cathedrals as well as in Tewkesbury Abbey. He has also sung with Chester Festival Chorus since 2005 and has appeared at the BBC Promenade Concerts. He is currently an Associate Member of the Halle Choir recently singing Elgar's The Kingdom under Sir Mark Elder's direction.

Howard has conducted the Waverton Singers 1980-1986, the Wrexham Maelor Hospital Choir 1987-90 and the Halton Orpheus Choir 1990-2003. He has held his current post with FDCS since 2008.
